Basketball Game Preview: Jefferson Bears vs. Flat Rock Rams

Jefferson hasn't had much luck against Flat Rock recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Jefferson Bears will challenge the Flat Rock Rams at 7:00 p.m.

Jefferson is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 47-44 heartbreaker at the hands of St. Mary Catholic Central. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 352nd, while the Falcons/Kestrels are ranked 23rd).

Meanwhile, Flat Rock had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 52-46 W against the Pirates.

Jefferson better focus on containing Madleen Hussein and Layla Holbrook as the pair were huge in Flat Rock's win. Hussein went 7-for-12 on her way to 20 points, while Holbrook posted ten points and seven boards. Holbrook is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 40% in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Madelyn Witkowski, who earned six points.

Flat Rock's record is now 11-7. As for Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.

Jefferson came up short against Flat Rock in their previous matchup back in January, falling 42-35. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hussein, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. Now that Jefferson knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
