Softball Recap: Northeastern Comes Up Short

Northeastern fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against West Liberty-Salem on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 10-9. The Jets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

Kylee Williams spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and eight unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sophia Shingler was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two doubles. Jayla Sartin also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Northeastern now has a losing record of 10-11. As for West Liberty-Salem, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northeastern will host Greeneview at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for West Liberty-Salem, they will welcome Cedarville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
