Basketball Recap: Sebastian River's Run of Five Straight Wins Now Over

It was fun while it lasted, but Sebastian River's undefeated season came to an end after five games on Monday. They fell 52-40 to the Central Cobras. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Sharks came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while the Cobras are ranked 333rd).

Several Sharks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Payton DeGroat, who posted seven points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda Pickard, who had eight points.

Having lost for the first time this season, Sebastian River fell to 5-1. As for Central, their victory bumped their record up to 3-7.

Sebastian River will be taking part in a tournament against Heritage at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Lincoln Park Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lincoln Park Academy will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Central surely won't give up without a fight.
