Basketball Recap: Cruze Haynes Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat South Shelby

Westran proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 27) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the South Shelby Cardinals 46-44. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won seven in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westran to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cruze Haynes, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 boards gave Haynes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hayden Chapman, who shot 67% from the field en route to 13 points.

Westran's victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

Coming up, Westran will be taking part in a tournament against Slater at 9:00 p.m. on the 3rd. As for South Shelby, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Salisbury at 6:00 p.m. on the 5th.
