Softball Recap: Kettering Drops Highest Score of Season Against Milford

Kettering extended their losing streak to ten on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-15 in the process. They came up short against the Milford Mavericks, falling 31-11. On the bright side, the 11- run effort marked the Captains' highest-scoring matchup to date.

As for Milford, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-10. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 24.0 runs over those games.

For Milford's part, Lauren Elkins was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Elkins a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marisa Merz, who fired off two home runs, nine RBI, and six runs while going 4-for-5. Those six runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Rimpley, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
