Basketball Recap: Jace Mclennon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Central Valley over Beyer

Central Valley lost against Beyer back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Central Valley Hawks took a 55-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Beyer Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 700th, while the Patriots are ranked 266th).

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jace Mclennon, who posted 15 points. What's more, Mclennon also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Silas Rodriguez was another key player, going 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points.

Even though they lost, Central Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Central Valley's loss dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Beyer, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season.

Central Valley will welcome Livingston at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Central Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52 points per game this season. As for Beyer, they are taking a road trip to challenge Grace Davis at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Grace Davis is on a three-game streak of home wins, Beyer a seven-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
