Basketball Recap: Leland Comes Up Short

Leland played a tough match on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 71-25 defeat at the hands of the Simmons Blue Devils. While losing is never fun, the Cubs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while the Blue Devils are ranked 79th).

Akiah Prince continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Simmons, going 14 of 22 en route to 30 points in addition to eight boards and seven steals. With that strong performance, Prince is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Vontasia Rush, who posted ten points and three steals.

Leland's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Simmons, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 24-0.

Leland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Simmons, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against West Tallahatchie at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Simmons is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season.
