Basketball Recap: Spring Woods Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

Spring Woods had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.4 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Sterling Raiders as they made off with a 63-39 victory. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matches by 20 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Anjalena Salazar, who posted 23 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Brittany Bargas was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Spring Woods smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive boards in six consecutive games.

When it comes to explaining why Sterling lost, don't look at Destiny Lewis. Despite the final result, she went 11 of 21 on her way to 32 points along with six rebounds and five steals. That was a full 82.1% of Sterling's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Randnechia Thompson, who scored four points and three steals.

Spring Woods' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-4. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.5 points per game. As for Sterling, they moved to 14-13 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.
