Basketball Recap: Kearney Bulldogs vs. St. Pius X Warriors
The Kearney Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to St. Pius X 43-39. Kearney was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Kearney saw an underclassman step up: Addison Taylor scored seven points along with four steals. Ryleigh Van emmerik was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Hayley Tischinski had an outrageously good game for St. Pius X as she scored 18 points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Tischinski scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Sell, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Kearney has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season. As for St. Pius X, their victory bumped their record up to 8-10.
Kearney will be playing at home against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Excelsior Springs is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for St. Pius X, they will take on the Blue Jays at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Missouri (Liberty is ranked 126th, while the Warriors are ranked 149th).
