Baseball Recap: Burke's Win Ends Three-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Burke won the last time they faced St. Anselm's Abbey and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Bengals walked away with a 7-3 win over the Panthers.

Cassius Fiorill and Max Gruber made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Fiorill struck out 13 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Gruber pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Burke is 2-1 when Fiorill allows two or fewer earned runs, but 0-3-1 otherwise. At bat, Fiorill scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Gruber scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Fiorill also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Burke let Sam Hutt and Aaron Friemann run wild. Hutt scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Friemann scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Those two runs gave Hutt a new career-high. Lucas Miller also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Burke's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-4-1. As for St. Anselm's Abbey, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Looking ahead, Burke will be playing at home against Avalon at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Anselm's Abbey, they will head out to face off against Field at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
