Baseball Game Preview: Sahuaro Cougars vs. Salpointe Catholic Lancers

Sahuaro hasn't had much luck against Salpointe Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Cougars will look to defend their home field against the Lancers at 4:00 p.m. Sahuaro has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Sahuaro is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Catalina Foothills, falling 11-0.

Meanwhile, Salpointe Catholic put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They never let Canyon del Oro get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Ernesto Bojorquez, who gave up just two hits to keep Canyon del Oro off the board. Bojorquez has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Lucas Shannon was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Paul Saffer was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Salpointe Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Canyon del Oro only posted a batting average of .105.

Sahuaro's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12-1. As for Salpointe Catholic, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-0-1.

Sahuaro beat Salpointe Catholic 6-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lancers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
