Preview: Daphne Trojans vs. Foley Lions
Daphne is 10-0 against Foley since November of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Daphne Trojans will head out on the road to take on the Foley Lions at 7:30 p.m. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Daphne pushed their score all the way to 56 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 63-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fairhope. While losing is never fun, Daphne can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while Fairhope is ranked 28th).
Meanwhile, Foley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 11th straight loss. They were outmatched by Fairhope at home and fell 75-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Foley has suffered against Fairhope since February 10, 2021.
Despite their loss, Foley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Dawson Pierce, who scored 14 points, was perhaps the best of all. Curtis Sanders was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Daphne's loss dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Foley, they bumped their record down to 1-23 with that loss, which was their 12th straight at home.
Daphne was able to grind out a solid victory over Foley when the teams last played last Tuesday, winning 55-46. The rematch might be a little tougher for Daphne since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
