Softball Recap: Piedmont Has No Trouble Against Tennyson

Piedmont had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Tennyson on Friday. The Highlanders blew past the Lancers 16-1. That's more bragging rights for the Highlanders, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Edie Elmquist made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Elmquist was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Kajsa Benson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eunice Kouadio, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs.

Piedmont now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Tennyson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.

Piedmont will be playing at home against Lick-Wilmerding at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.86 runs per game on average), something the Highlanders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Tennyson, they will venture away from home to face off against Valley Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
