Basketball Recap: Independence Comes Up Short

Independence has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 57-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ambassador Christian School Lions on Friday.

When it comes to explaining why Independence lost, don't look at Daniel Waritay. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 7 on his way to 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb Jasper, who posted 14 points.

Even though they lost, Independence smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ambassador Christian School to victory, but perhaps none more so than Judah King, who had 17 points. Logan Johnson was another key player, going 6 of 13 en route to 15 points.

Independence's loss dropped their record down to 14-4. As for Ambassador Christian School, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 13-4.

Independence will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Charlotte Catholic at 7:30 p.m. Charlotte Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Independence likes a good challenge. As for Ambassador Christian School, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 60-47 victory against Hopewell on the 25th.
