Softball Game Preview: Bradley-Bourbonnais Boilermakers vs. Coal City Coalers

The Bradley-Bourbonnais Boilermakers will take on the Coal City Coalers at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Bradley-Bourbonnais and Herscher, and Bradley-Bourbonnais kept the tradition alive. Bradley-Bourbonnais was the clear victor by a 13-3 margin over Herscher on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Boilermakers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Abbie Hofbauer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Hofbauer was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Suttyn Hop was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Evie McIntyre was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Coal City took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They put the hurt on Prairie Central with a sharp 9-3 victory. The Coalers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 30, 2024.

Coal City got a massive performance out of Khloe Picard, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Madalyn Petersen, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Coal City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Prairie Central only posted an OBP of .303.
