Basketball Recap: Fairmont Beats St. Pauls for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Fairmont had won three straight games and Taniya Simms did her part to make it four on Friday. The Fairmont Golden Tornadoes narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the St. Pauls Bulldogs 54-51 thanks in part to Simms, who went 6 of 9 en route to 22 points along with five assists and three blocks. She is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

The team also got some help courtesy of Shaniah Smith, who posted four points and three steals. Smith is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

St. Pauls' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zakoreya Davis, who earned eight points in addition to 16 boards and three steals. That's the most rebounds Davis has posted since back in February of 2024. Alyssa Monroe was another key player, putting up 13 points and six boards.

Fairmont's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. As for St. Pauls, their defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-3.

Fairmont didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-23 win against Hoke County on the 18th. As for St. Pauls, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 50-45 victory against Lumberton on the 18th.
