League recap: Torres' hitting boosts Bloomfield

Super Essex - American league recap: 5/22/13

James Torres was the hottest hitter in Super Essex - American this week, racking up a .462 average, one home run and nine RBIs. Meanwhile, Bloomfield put together a 4-1 week.

West Essex outpaced the rest of the league this week, as its four total wins led the league. The Knights beat West Orange 6-5, Hanover Park 9-1 and Central 14-1.

Millburn's pitching staff had a strong showing this week, allowing only nine hits and three walks, both of which led the league.

Although the 45 runs scored by the Bengals topped the league, the Millers maintained their lead in the league with 208 runs this season.

There were five hitters that batted over .400 in the league this week. They were led by Frank Maldonado, who hit .667 this week (4-for-6).

Bloomfield's Torres racked up nine RBIs this week, more than any other hitter. Torres has 22 RBIs this season, seventh in the league.



Chris Ong was an RBI machine on Saturday, as he knocked in four runs during the Bengals' 8-7 win over Nutley. He went 3-for-4 and scored three runs.

Millburn's Ian Riddell threw seven shutout innings in a 6-0 win over Barringer on Monday. He pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out six, while giving up four hits.
