Basketball Game Preview: Wheeler County Bulldogs vs. McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers

Wheeler County hasn't had much luck against McIntosh County Academy recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wheeler County Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. Wheeler County will be strutting in after a victory while McIntosh County Academy will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Saturday, Wheeler County didn't have too much trouble with Wilcox County as they won 51-37. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, McIntosh County Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Savannah on Friday and fell 48-45.

Wheeler County will need to focus on slowing down Jayden Ellis, one of several McIntosh County Academy players who made an impact when they last played. He went 5-for-12 to rack up 14 points. Ellis is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 43% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mj Quarterman, who posted 11 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.

Even though they lost, McIntosh County Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

McIntosh County Academy's loss dropped their record down to 22-5. As for Wheeler County, their victory bumped their record up to 13-9.

Wheeler County came up short against McIntosh County Academy in their previous meeting back in November of 2019, falling 81-76. Can Wheeler County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
