The Grant Tigers will take on the Chippewa Hills Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Grant has six straight wins, Chippewa Hills has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Grant came out on top against Big Rapids on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Tigers walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Cardinals.
Addison Herrmann made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Herrmann was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Payton Shoemaker was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Alexa Obenauf, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Chippewa Hills might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 12-2 to Newaygo, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Chippewa Hills saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Newman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Chippewa Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 15-12. As for Grant, their win bumped their record up to 20-6.
Chippewa Hills' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Grant has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Chippewa Hills, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Grant's sizable advantage in that area, the Warriors will need to find a way to close that gap.
Grant came out on top in a nail-biter against Chippewa Hills in their previous matchup two weeks ago, sneaking past 25-23. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
