Baseball Recap: Port St. Joe Takes Down Liberty County in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Port St. Joe had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Liberty County Bulldogs. The result was nothing new for the Tiger Sharks, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Baylor Partie made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Port St. Joe is undefeated when Partie posts two or more runs, but 9-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Corban Butts, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Harris, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

The victory made it two in a row for Port St. Joe and bumps their season record up to 14-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Liberty County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Port St. Joe will take on Blountstown at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Liberty County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
