Basketball Recap: Surry Homeschool Falls Despite Big Games from Heath Clark and Dylan Butcher

Surry HomeSchool lost against South Guilford HomeSchool last Thursday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Surry HomeSchool Runnin' Patriots fell just short of the South Guilford HomeSchool Cougars by a score of 56-54.

Surry HomeSchool's loss came despite strong showings from Dylan Butcher and Heath Clark. Butcher posted 19 points, while Clark had 18 points. Butcher has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Preston Furr, who put up six points.

South Guilford HomeSchool's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Garrett Hughes led the charge by going 7 of 10 on his way to 16 points and six assists. What's more, Hughes also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in February. Nate Martin was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Surry HomeSchool has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for South Guilford HomeSchool, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-9.

After both having extra time off, Surry HomeSchool and Dayspring Christian Academy will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another on January 4, 2025. As for South Guilford HomeSchool, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 41-39 win against NC H on the 21st.
