Baseball Game Preview: Valley Vikings vs. Bernalillo Spartans

Valley has gone 8-2 against Bernalillo recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Vikings will venture away from home to square off against the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. Bernalillo took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Valley, who comes in off a win.

Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Del Norte with a sharp 22-0 win on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Adam Montoya looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Caden Barth was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marshall Tafoya, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs and one RBI.

Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Del Norte only posted a batting average of .263.

Meanwhile, Bernalillo suffered their biggest defeat since March 17th on Friday. They lost 12-6 to Albuquerque Academy.

Valley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-14 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Bernalillo, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.

Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Bernalillo in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, winning 13-8. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
