Baseball Game Preview: Villa Park Spartans vs. Canyon Comanches

The Villa Park Spartans will challenge the Canyon Comanches at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Villa Park's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Canyon's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Villa Park is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Foothill just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 4-3.

Logan Hoppie was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Villa Park saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ezra Ornelas, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Canyon never let their opponents score on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 victory over Pacifica. Surprisingly, this marked the third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

The result came thanks to Kemuel Zhang's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Canyon is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-11 otherwise.

Villa Park's loss dropped their record down to 14-7-1. As for Canyon, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
