Basketball Recap: Mattamuskeet Takes a Loss

Mattamuskeet was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss. They were dealt a 61-9 defeat at the hands of the Bear Grass Charter Bears. The Lakers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-7.

Despite the loss, Mattamuskeet still got an impressive performance from Kensley Cox, who posted five points in addition to nine boards and three steals. That was a full 55.6% of Mattamuskeet's points, marking the fourth time in a row Cox has earned more than a third of the team's points. SAVANNAH WHITFIELD also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Even though they lost, Mattamuskeet smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bear Grass Charter to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carly Bembridge, who went 5-for-10 en route to 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Bembridge a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Hayes, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 13 boards.

Mattamuskeet's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Bear Grass Charter, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-6.

Mattamuskeet has already played their next matchup, a 36-19 defeat against Hobgood Charter on the 12th. As for Bear Grass Charter, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-37 victory against Columbia on the 13th.
