Baseball Recap: Neptune Has No Trouble Against Lakewood

After only two runs in their last contest, Neptune made sure to put some runs up on the board against Lakewood on Wednesday. The Scarlet Fliers were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Piners. The matchup marked the Scarlet Fliers' most dominant win of the season.

Trevor Rummel made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Nick Bailey was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Max Kifner, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Neptune's record is now 3-11. As for Lakewood, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

When Neptune and Lakewood next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Scarlet Fliers will try to stop Monmouth Regional's three-game winning streak when they meet at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lakewood will face off against Freehold Boro and their three-game winning streak at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
