Basketball Recap: Oxford's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Oxford had won four straight games and Kellen Green did his part to make it five on Tuesday. The Oxford Wildcats narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Flinthills Mustangs 60-57 thanks in part to Green, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 29 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. His evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Zane Whitson, who posted 11 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That's the most points he has posted since back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Flinthills still got an impressive performance from Jacob Hunter, who went 10 for 25 en route to 28 points in addition to eight assists and seven boards. That was a full 49.1% of Flinthills' points, marking the fourth time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points. Mason Randall was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Oxford pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.4 points per game. As for Flinthills, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-4.

Oxford will head out on the road to face off against Cedar Vale/Dexter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Oxford knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Cedar Vale/Dexter likes a good challenge. As for Flinthills, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Udall at 7:00 p.m. Udall is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season.
