Basketball Recap: Four Straight Road Wins for Westfield

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Westfield ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They secured a 62-58 W over the Mt. Vernon Marauders. The Shamrocks haven't had any issues with the Marauders recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

It was another big night for Durante Morton, who to rack up 26 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Will Harvey, who posted 11 points.

Luke Ertel and Tanner Teschendorf certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Ertel en route to 21 points and eight rebounds, while Teschendorf had 12 points in addition to six boards and three steals. That was a full 36.2% of Mt. Vernon's points, marking the fifth time in a row Ertel has scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Parra, who put up ten points.

Westfield pushed their record up to 18-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points over those games. As for Mt. Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 16-5.

Westfield and Mt. Vernon are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Westfield will challenge Fishers at 7:45 p.m. on March 4th. Fishers will roll in looking for their 25th straight victory, something Westfield surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mt. Vernon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Yorktown at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
