Baseball Game Preview: North Warren Central Cougars vs. Fort Ann Cardinals

North Warren Central is 2-8 against Fort Ann since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Cardinals at 6:45 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Fort Ann will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: North Warren Central extended their winning streak to five on Monday. The Cougars never let Northville get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Maceo Matson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That RBI was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Wyatt Jennings was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Daniel Mattison was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

North Warren Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northville only posted an OBP of .333.

Fort Ann hadn't beaten Warrensburg on the road since May 12, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. The Cardinals blew past the Burgers 14-3. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Cardinals this season.

North Warren Central's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for Fort Ann, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

North Warren Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Fort Ann in their previous meeting on Tuesday, winning 9-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
