Baseball Recap: Basalt Comes Up Short

Basalt came into this matchup off a tough ten-run defeat last Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Gunnison Cowboys by a score of 10-8 on Saturday. The Longhorns were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cowboys apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Elias Schendler was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Kody Barton was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

This is the second loss in a row for Basalt and nudges their season record down to 5-3. As for Gunnison, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-6 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Basalt beat the Cowboys by a score of 15-14 later that day.
