Baseball Recap: Broughton Comes Up Short

Broughton blew Holly Springs out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Holly Springs got their revenge. The Capitals fell just short of the Golden Hawks by a score of 6-4. The Capitals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Gray Veit was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Broughton saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was John T Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Broughton's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Holly Springs, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-8.

Looking ahead, Broughton will venture away from home to face off against Athens Drive at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Capitals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Holly Springs, they will host Apex at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Golden Hawks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
