The Cooper Bulldogs and the Wolfe City Wolves will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cooper has three straight victories, Wolfe City has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Cooper's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Bland 15-0. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Bulldogs this season.
Jaret Slakey made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 16 over six innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Cooper got a massive performance out of Devin Dial, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. What's more, Dial posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Tyler Moses was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Cooper always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bland only posted an OBP of .000.
Meanwhile, Wolfe City came up short against Ford two weeks ago and fell 6-1. The match marked the Wolves' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Wolfe City saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Casen Pessel, who went 1-for-2 with one double. Carson Herron also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Cooper's record now sits at 6-3. As for Wolfe City, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Wolfe City's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cooper hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .397. It's a different story for Wolfe City, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain Cooper's hitters?
Cooper was able to grind out a solid win over Wolfe City in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 8-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cooper since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
