Softball Preview: Northwest Cabarrus Trojans vs. Robinson Bulldogs

The Northwest Cabarrus Trojans will be playing at home against the Robinson Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Northwest Cabarrus entered their tilt with Carson with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 1-0 shutout on Wednesday.

The result came thanks to Haylee Ellis's shutout, as she gave up just one hit and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Isabella Ellis was excellent, going 1-for-3 with a home run.

Meanwhile, Robinson had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged Lake Norman Charter out 2-0. The win was just what Robinson needed coming off of a 12-6 defeat in their prior contest.

Nichols Kendra made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Kendra was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Kendra wasn't the only one making solid contact as one players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Savanah Cloke, who went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Northwest Cabarrus' victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-5. As for Robinson, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Northwest Cabarrus hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Robinson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
