Benson is 0-3 against Auburn since April of 2022 but things could change on Monday. The Bunnies will square off against the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. Benson has given up an average of 15.5 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Benson is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 34th straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They came up short against Bellevue East, falling 16-0.
Benson saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amrion Pouncil, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one double. That double marked the first that Pouncil has hit this season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Auburn made sure to put some runs up on the board against Falls City on Thursday. The Bulldogs blew past the Tigers 14-4. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won nine in a row.
Mason Schultz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. Schultz was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Noah Erickson was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brycen Meyer, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Auburn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Auburn's record is now 9-7. As for Benson, their loss dropped their record down to 0-12.
Benson might still be hurting after the 29-0 defeat they got from Auburn in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Bunnies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
