Basketball Game Preview: Spanish Springs Cougars vs. Reed Raiders

Spanish Springs is 8-2 against Reed since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Spanish Springs Cougars will be playing at home against the Reed Raiders at 7:30 p.m. Spanish Springs will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.

Last Tuesday, everything came up roses for Spanish Springs against McQueen as the squad secured a 72-43 victory. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 20 points or more this season.

Spanish Springs' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Travis Lee, who went 7 of 14 en route to 16 points along with five boards and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Lee a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Owen Hensley, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 11 points and six rebounds.

Spanish Springs was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McQueen only posted eight assists.

Meanwhile, Reed fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Galena on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Grizzlies by a score of 59-56. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Raiders have suffered since February 16, 2024.

Spanish Springs has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.1 points per game. As for Reed, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.
