Recap: Maple Grove Red Dragons vs. Clymer Central Pirates
The Maple Grove Red Dragons had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They managed a 47-41 win over Clymer Central on Thursday. For Maple Grove, this counts as revenge for the 49-41 defeat Clymer Central walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February.
When it comes to explaining why Clymer Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jonathan Massing. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Massing is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Tanner Mihalko, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Maple Grove's win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-0. As for Clymer Central, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maple Grove will take on Brocton at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Brocton's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Clymer Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Westfield at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Westfield knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Clymer Central likes a good challenge.
