Football Game Preview: Galena Park Yellowjackets vs. Westbury Huskies + Official Tickets

Two dominant backs in Cary Clay and Jefferson Rivas Hernandez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Galena Park Yellowjackets will venture away from home to challenge the Westbury Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Galena Park knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Westbury likes a good challenge.

Galena Park took a loss when they played away from home on October 10th, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed two weeks ago. They blew past Sharpstown 63-26. The Yellowjackets' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Among those leading the charge was Darick Runnels, who rushed for 78 yards and one touchdown on only six carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Galena Park was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 494 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Westbury had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 45-27 win over the Apollos.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Westbury's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. They received some extra help from Derrick Jones, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Galena Park's record now sits at 3-5. As for Westbury, their record is now 8-1.

Saturday's contest might be decided on the ground. Galena Park has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 326 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Westbury struggles in that department as they've been averaging 199.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Galena Park was able to grind out a solid victory over Westbury in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, winning 21-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
