Softball Recap: Smithfield Comes Up Short

Smithfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 8-1 to the Gloucester Dukes. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dukes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-10 back in April.

Grace Dodson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Smithfield now has a losing record of 10-11. As for Gloucester, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-7.

Coming up, Smithfield will square off against Poquoson at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bull Islanders will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Gloucester, they will face off against Warhill at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dukes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
