Baseball Recap: Benton Cardinals vs. Lexington Minutemen

Benton put the finishing touches on their 14th blowout victory of the season on Friday. They beat the Lexington Minutemen by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 12-2. The win was familiar territory for Benton who now have ten in a row.

Steven Wahlgren looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Benton got a massive performance out of Carson Schmidt, who scored three runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Schmidt is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now stolen two or more in the last three games he's played. Chris Coy was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Benton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season. As for Lexington, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-22.

Benton didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 19-8 victory vs. Savannah on the 29th. Lexington has also already played their next match, an 8-1 loss against Carrollton on the 30th.
