I Sunset - Southwest recap Oct. 9, 2012
Cimarron-Memorial was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after falling to Bishop Gorman. The Spartans came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
Bonanza made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,470 from 7,579. The improvement was the result of 20-7 victory over the Bengals last week.
The Gaels' dynamic duo of Anu Solomon and Ryan Smith proved tough for Cimarron-Memorial to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Solomon threw for 134 yards and two touchdowns and Smith had 61 yards receiving. Terrance Chambers helped Bishop Gorman's passing attack out by catching three balls for 34 yards.
Charles Julian was the most productive running back in I Sunset - Southwest this week. In 26 carries, he ran for 231 yards as Legacy topped John Parcells' team. Teammate LaMarus Williams added to the ground attack by rushing for 39 yards.
Tony Sanchez's team's Solomon and Smith have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Solomon has thrown for 1373 yards this season, while Smith, a 5-foot-7 receiver, has 19 catches for 471 yards. The Longhorns' Julian leads the league in rushing yards with 950.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Centennial and the Spartans. The Bulldogs enters the game ranked fourth in the state, while Cimarron-Memorial ranks 25th.
Julian of the Legacy is only 50 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
Centennial led I Sunset - Southwest in scoring this week after putting up 65 points on the Diamondbacks. Austin Turley threw for 91 yards and one touchdown and ran for 16 yards in the win.
