Baseball Recap: Mathis Comes Up Short

Mathis was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the San Diego Vaqueros, falling 12-2. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vaqueros apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Jozaih Gutierrez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. EJ Montemayor also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Mathis' loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for San Diego, they pushed their record up to 6-4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Coincidentally, Mathis and San Diego will both be playing Odem the next time they take the field. San Diego will host Odem at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Mathis will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on March 21st.
