Volleyball Recap: Kenzie Hooker Key Part of Team Effort in Golden Eagles Win

East Surry typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Surry Central proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 3-1 win over the Cardinals. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Golden Eagles.

Surry Central had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 14-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-15.

Surry Central's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenzie Hooker, who had 40 assists and 13 digs. Hooker has been hot for a while, having posted 16 or more assists the last 20 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Presley Smith, who had 18 digs and 17 kills.

Surry Central was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least nine aces in three consecutive matchups.

Surry Central's record is now 17-7. As for East Surry, their loss ended a six-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-6.

Coming up, Surry Central will challenge North Surry at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. East Surry does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
