Softball Game Preview: Dawson-Bryant Hornets vs. Raceland Rams

The Dawson-Bryant Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the Raceland Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dawson-Bryant is coming into the match hot, having won their last 13 games.

While Dawson-Bryant's win against South Point wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hornets had just enough and edged out the Pointers 2-0.

South Point's batters probably weren't too happy with Abbie Deeds, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 13 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Deeds has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Raceland was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They came up short against East Carter, falling 7-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Rams have suffered against the Raiders since May 10, 2017.

Dawson-Bryant pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Raceland, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-7.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dawson-Bryant hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Raceland struggles in that department as they've averaged .371. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Dawson-Bryant might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Raceland in their previous meeting back in March of 2018. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
