Football Recap: Mauldin Comes Up Short Despite Devon Wilson's Big Defensive Game

Mauldin fought the good fight in their overtime game against T.L. Hanna on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellow Jackets. The Mavericks have struggled against the Yellow Jackets recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Mauldin still got an impressive performance from Tamari Shepherd, who picked up 91 receiving yards and one score. Peyton Myers also deserves some recognition as he passed for his first passing yards of the season.

Mauldin didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Devon Wilson. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with ten.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Elijah Grimes and Jaylon Watson. Grimes rushed for 84 yards and one TD on only nine carries while Watson gained 52 total yards and two touchdowns. Emari Nance got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Mauldin now has a losing record of 2-3. As for T.L. Hanna, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1.
