The Legacy Tigers will take on the Bell Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Legacy 3.9, Bell 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
While Legacy's victory against Huntington Park wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Spartans 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since April 25, 2024.
Meanwhile, Bell fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Verdugo Hills on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Dons by a score of 8-7. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Dons recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Bell got a good showing from Rigoberto Baltazar, who pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Baltazar has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Luis Melendez stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 3-for-5 with three runs and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Rojas, who went 1-for-6 with four RBI and one double.
Legacy pushed their record up to 9-13 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bell, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-8.
Legacy couldn't quite get it done against Bell when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
