Baseball Game Preview: Leyden Eagles vs. Niles North Vikings

The Leyden Eagles will head out to square off against the Niles North Vikings at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Leyden fell victim to Willowbrook and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors.

Elias Carrillo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, Leyden saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julian Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, Niles North unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of Glenbrook North by a score of 7-6. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 11, 2019, but that streak is no more.

Leyden's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-14. As for Niles North, their record is now 14-17-1.

Leyden suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Niles North when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
