Soccer Game Preview: Standing Bear vs. Beatrice

The Standing Bear Grizzlies will head out to take on the Beatrice Orangemen at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Standing Bear and Blair faced off in a Battle of the Bears on Thursday. The Grizzlies came up short against the Bears, falling 3-0. The contest was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly Standing Bear struggled afterwards.

Meanwhile, Beatrice hadn't done well against Waverly recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Orangemen skirted past the Vikings 2-1. The game was the first time Beatrice have beaten Waverly on their pitch since March 27, 2017.

Beatrice was without their leading scorer, Luis Gutierrez Pineda, in Monday's matchup. With Gutierrez Pineda sidelined, the Orangemen had to make some changes to the lineup. Bentley Mullins played for 75 minutes having averaged 48 this season and Henry Trantham got 30 vs. an average of 12.6. Mullins made the most of the opportunity, scoring a goal A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.

The win (which was Beatrice's third in a row) raised their record to 3-2. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored nine goals over those three matches. As for Standing Bear, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
