The Aledo Bearcats will challenge the Abilene Eagles on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Aledo is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Monterey 17-1. The win was nothing new for the Bearcats as they're now sitting on four straight.
Tempe Perry made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Breleigh Mayer, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Kyleigh Pawlak, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Abilene made easy work of Richland on Friday and carried off a 9-1 victory.
Like Aledo, Abilene also got a great game from a two-way player: Kaylee Gonzales. She tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gonzales was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Brieyonna Reed was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Mariah Estrada was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Aledo's win bumped their record up to 28-10. As for Abilene, their victory bumped their record up to 26-11-1.
Aledo got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in February against Abilene by a conclusive 8-0 score. Will the Bearcats repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
