Preview: Doddridge County Bulldogs vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Doddridge County is 0-3 against Notre Dame since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Doddridge County Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 7:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Doddridge County's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Notre Dame has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
Last Wednesday, Doddridge County was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 42-41 to Cameron. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Doddridge County came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 57th, while Cameron is ranked 415th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Brandon Hileman, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 15 points for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Jerod Trent, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 58-53 to Tygarts Valley. Notre Dame has struggled against Tygarts Valley recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Doddridge County's loss dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Notre Dame, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Doddridge County was dealt a bruising 91-54 loss at the hands of Notre Dame in their previous matchup back in February of 2020. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Doddridge County was down 47-18.
