Baseball Game Preview: Waldron Mohawks vs. North Decatur Chargers

The Waldron Mohawks will face off against the North Decatur Chargers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Waldron is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against South Decatur on Wednesday. They came up short against the Cougars, falling 9-2.

Waldron saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Dodson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

The scorekeeper got an easy start as neither North Decatur nor Waldron made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Chargers took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mohawks. The Chargers haven't had much luck with the Mohawks recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Wyatt Reisman stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for North Decatur: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Fields, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Waldron dropped their record down to 5-8 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. As for North Decatur, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Waldron has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like North Decatur struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Waldron beat North Decatur 13-9 in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Will the Mohawks repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
