Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tavares). They had just enough and edged out the First Academy Eagles 21-19. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Jordan Poppell was a standout: he scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Jeruel Rivera-Torres, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Poppell wasn't the only one making solid contact: Tavares kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Tavares' victory bumped their record up to 7-13. As for First Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-7.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Tavares will challenge Pine Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for First Academy, they will face off against St. John Lutheran at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Saints have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
